It was working fine and all of a sudden it stop recognizing the blank media. I am always asked to insert an empty disc.
I bought this 2 weeks ago. I already tried uninstalling the driver and system restore. I tried several media brands with the same result. Any ideas?

You could try updating the firmware for the drive. It could also be a dirty lens or the laser could be going out. I would try updating the firmware first. The drive might not be capable of handling new media until the firmware update.

Thanks for the quick reply. I already checked and the newest firmware is already installed. Could the lens really be dirty after 2 weeks?

There are any number of explanations. Bad media - dirty lens - or defective drive. The length of time owned has no bearing on defective equipment or dirty lens.

Do you smoke in the house? Many optical devices die thanks to smoke, be it cigarettes, cigars, or something else.

In response to your PM, no, don't use a "cleaning disc" -- those are often abrasive, and don't help anything. Follow this guide instead: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/show...vd-cd-423.html

  8. Uninstall any software (NERO, PRASSI, ROXIO) you have put on recently .. some such as daemon or imgdisk can sometimes cause problems with the aspi layer. Try using your drive under linux or win7 to make sure its the hardware at fault.
You could try spitting on the lens and rubbing it with a damp cloth, it always brings my HorseBrass up in a real shine, although nine members of my Family have died from Swine Flu

You are being extremely secretive about the make? the model? and the type(s) of media? software?
