  1. Okay, I just bought this new video camera which is HDR-SR7. And seriously, it takes good video aswell as pictures. But here's my problem. When I import those videos into my laptop, I cannot play it as it is in .MTS format.

So, how do I play it then?

Could someone please post a very simplified guide of how to convert one of these mts files to mpeg (high quality) or avi, please? I'm a newbie at this stuff.

I have all the .mts files on my desktop right now.

I really don't want to sacrifice any quality either.

Well, if you simply want to play the files, since your source .mts files will always have superior quality to any conversions you may do, make sure you have an AVC codec such as CoreAVC (shareware) or ffdshow (freeware). In addition to the codecs, you may also need a program called Haali Media splitter (freeware). With those pieces of software installed, you should be able to easily play your files in Media Player Classic.

just right click on the file and choose rename
doesn't always work with complex files but since this file seems pretty simple, it's worth a shot...
