I would (will soon) go for the cheapest with a good name behind it. I've seen a couple of the cheap ones in use for 2 years of pretty intense use and that is good enough for me ($120-$150 range now, about $300-400 then)

  6. LG HD-Rom/Blu-Ray Writer combo. I have a lot of HD DVDs that I'm converting over to blu. You can have both hd dvd and blu ray access for the low price of $170. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136155

Just FYI the PIONEER Blu-ray drives only work with VISTA according to the specs.

That pioneer is only a bluray reader not a writer.

It doesn't matter if it's a reader or writer, it's still only compatible with VISTA.

So what about windows 7 as it looks like vista might be finished
the LG drive is very tempting and proven but the new PIONEER writes at 8x

Its not really that but with dvd the write speed did not matter so much as you could still write a disc quite quick
but with blu-ray the difference between write speeds are more important as its quite a slow process..

although i have never seen 8x discs yet
