Can anyone tell me how to fix this or is the Liteon 5115GHC Broke? I tried using the cd that cleans the laser but that didn't work. Unplugged it and replugged that didn't work. I am not capable of taking the case off and going into the guts. Hopefully one of you will have a solution.

    Thanks

I didn't make myself clear in the original message. Let me try. I put in a dvd it looks and looks at dvd and then starts formatting it. Gets to 20% and then the door opens and ask for a cd. I have tried 3 different new dvds and no success. The unit plays well but will not record no matter what I have tried. Tired of wasting dvds and I really use this unit a lot.

I did not take the top off the recorder as I can't get the screws out. If i did I wouldn't know what I was doing anyway. I used one of the cd optical cleaners I bought at Best Buy today and that didn't help. I am really bummed. I might add I am computer literate and can do a lot of things but being 71 years old I can't do anything like that post above says.

Yeah, those cleaner discs are garbage, no surprise.

There is really not a "computer literate" aspect needed, this is all mechanical, taking no more skill that operating a screwdriver. If you need assistance, get a younger family member, church member, etc, to assist. My neighbor comes over about once a month, retired guy, I don't mind helping at all, only takes me a few minutes in most cases.

Thank you so much. Through the years this forum has solved so many things for me and I have learned so much from the people here. One of the best on the net. I tried to turn the screws but can't get them to budge. I will see if one of my neighbors can help me. I hate to bother them unless I am in dire need. My son does not live in the same city and doesn't get up here often. I will see what I can do and let you all know if I get it fixed. I have an Apex 5115 that is dead as a door nail. The one with 3 cd holders in it. I keep meaning to throw it in the trash but so far it sits there. Another one dead that the turntable won't turn.
    Thanks again.

    Maybe try a larger screwdriver.

I got someone to help me get the top off the LiteOn dvd recorder. I cleaned the lens and it is working, at least now it recorded something from the tv. The picture is realllll fuzzy where it used to be clear. Not sure what is going on there. Will look at the connections tomorrow. Thank you all for the help.

Today I was able to see better and realized the vcr that is also hooked up in line with the tv and the dvd recorder was on. I turned it off and now the picture is clear. Hopefully the dvd player will last awhile longer. Than you all for the help.
