    when i put a tape into the canon hv30 and connect it via firwire ieee139 the xp beepes as though he has detected the camera, a small icon on the rite flashes and sais my new softwear is installed and ready for use but when i go in to a video editting program it sais it cannot identify a camera. does anyone know whats wrong?

    Not all video editing software supports HDV. You can use HDVSplit to just copy the video to your HDD.

    What programs have you tried?
    Does the camcorder come with some editing software?
