    ok ive just bought a home multimedia player with built in record function that connects to the av out on my set top box so i can record live tv, only thing is, its also comes with a hdmi slot at the back but my monitor doesnt have a hdmi slot at the back... does anyone know how i can get around this problem??

    HDMI -> DVI cable?

    But I suspect you won't be recording anything via HDMI. It is almost always protected by HDCP and no recording devices will record it.
