I have some mov's that will play up until a certain point and stop. Not all the mov's have this issue but those which do mostly stop either about half-way or 3/4 into the timeline.

I remember long ago having wmv's with similar problem and got it fixed very quickly with a repair tool.

Does anyone know of a mov repair tool???? I did searches on the net and this forum and haven't found anything yet.

    Thanks

I'm not aware of any simple repair tool for MOVs. With some formats, the stop is caused by a break in the index, not sure how MOVs work. If you can't play it, you probably can't convert it to a easier to repair format.

But you could try VirtualDub with a MOV (Quicktime) plugin added. Click 'Open video file' and check mark the box at the bottom of the page, 'Ask for extended options after this dialog'. This will give you some import options. May not work with MOVs, but worth a try.

I like that feature in VLC Player that offers to rebuild a bad or missing index for .AVI files. It doesn't always work (and should probably be run on a Test COPY of the file), but often is successful. If only such a feature could be extended to several other video file formats . . . .
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum ( http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ ) (http://lasvegas.wikia.com/wiki/Las_V...of_Fame_Museum ) -- over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this gradually disappearing American art form.

You could try re-wrapping the container with ffmpeg

ffmpeg -i input.mov -vcodec copy -acodec copy output.mov

or try putting it into .mp4 with mp4box (yamb is the gui),

or extract the raw audio & video with yamb, then place it into another container eg. mkvmerge

or try qt pro or mpegstreamclip to re-wrap it

I used xilisoft ultimate to convert to divx and it worked.

Only thing is a 3mb file turned to 60mb, so I'll be fooling with settings to get this down.

    Thanks for suggestions.

This is actually the first thread contribution I have ever made. I am a film student, moving on to pro work and thought I should jump in on helping the collective conscious grow. Wtf...I shot a music video all day yesterday and when I got home my footy would not play - I spent hours researching and like many came up with not... till I found this link on Mac Rumors. It works. Whatever dude... good luck out there - don't kill others chances at getting help. Here it is again http://grauonline.de/cmsimple2_6/en/...Repair_Utility

So you shot a video yesterday, your footage would not play, searched the internet and found the brand new tool by chance, tried it, liked it and bought it.....then you felt the urge to create an account here, dig up a 2 year old post just to tell us about this new product....and within three minutes of MY post....you send me a PM(claiming ignorance - "newbie") AND reply to my post with the "defiant" tone.

    Coincidence?.....ain't a chance in hell.
