Im looking into buying one of the higher end HD Camcorders but I guess the main selling point for me is if there is one on the market that allows direct exporting of the files to edit without transcoding through OEM software. I know it is still faster than having to capture in true time, but its still an extra step and time is a key factor.

  2. if you really have to have speed, why not look at a flash card based hd cam.

I would imagine that flash card based HD systems will use an even more compressed codec, Like I said Higer End maybe one that records in mpg2, one that does not have to be converted by Proprietary software in which a slight quality is lost.

  4. unless you are looking at pro cams most recent hdd ones are avchd based. something like the jvc GY-HM100U can record to flash in mpeg-2.

What is your budget, format preference and other requirements?

A Panasonic HVX200 can record DVC-ProHD to a FireStore hard drive or to P2 Flash media. Sony XDCAM can record to flash, Blu-Ray optical or external HDD.
