    Hi there!

I have an .avi file with two files aside: .idx and .sub
The .idx contains two languages: 1 and 2

I want to build a DiVX file containing the subtitles in language #2.
I mean with the subtitles integrated to the video file not in a separate file.
    How do I proceed?
Most complicated for me is the use of the Filter Tab...

I did four different and unsuccessful encodings...
    Grrr...

Many thanks in advance for your valuable help!

    Gerard

    Thanks for replying!

I put the AVI + .idx/.sub subtitles in a MKV container and burnt a DVD with Toast.
My DVD Player doesn't recognize MKV...

Then I did what you suggested in your post in late January, using ffmpegX to transcode the MKV to AVI with burned-in subtitles.
I did different unsuccessful tries (settings in the Filter Tab) with no results at all..

Could you elaborate and give me some explanations about your suggestion:
"...you can encode to DVD using the DVD mpeg2enc preset with Decode with mplayer activated. That seems to be the only setting that supports idx/sub for input in ffmpegX."
How do you encode to DVD?
    In ffmpegX?

    Regards,

    Gerard

Not sure how much more specific one could get. He says to use the DVD mpeg2enc preset. Ffmpegx has presets. Use the DVD mpeg2enc one. Then select "decode with mplayer " instead of, say, "decode with quicktime." If this is still somehow unclear, I suggest spending a couple of minutes reading the ffmpegx documentation. It's pretty well written.
