to convert a movie to a burnable by toast and playable tv dvd i have always used the 'DVD mpeg2enc' setting and all's generally been fine. i have a movie i want to crop (because it's sqaure with loads of black on the top and bottom). i see the crop doesn't work with mpeg2enc, so i tried using 'DVD ffmpeg'. after a while Progress was showing a few percent done (and it was a fairly large movie), but there were no output files.

was it working and i was just too impatient or was i right thinking it wasn't working? if it wasn't working is there a way to get it working?, if so what?

    thanks.

The best way to figure out the answers to those questions is to click on the blue "i" in the Progress window. Out will pop a bunch of messages describing what ffmpegx is doing. You'll be able to figure out whether the thing has crashed, or is just slow by examining the messages. Cropping forces re-encoding, so that will be a compute-intensive operation. If your computer is slow, or low on RAM, etc., it could indeed take a very long time.

    right, thanks for the info.

i've done the settings a bit differently, and this time there's an output file being made, so all's fine now. great, thanks.
