PC to Samsung LCD Again

As I live in the Philippines certain cables are not easily available. I am in final stages of a new house build, this is solid concrete construction and new cable runs are difficult. I have some conduits available and have basically run CAT 5 cabling for LAN and have installed redundant CAT 5 cabling in certain cases. Maximum cable run 100m.

I plan to buy a new server PC running a geovision CCTV DVR system. Which I want to be available, on upto four Samsung LCD tvs ( LA40A450C1H) various rooms. After searching the web I have found that there are various VGA to CAT 5 converters (and USB to CAT 5 converters - to control the Geovision system remotely). I would also like to transmit downloaded avi movies (for example over the same system).

As in post above I see I should output the VGA signal directly not via CAT 5. Any comments recommendations. Alternative methods, VGA amplifiers/splitters, etc.

It is possible to use Cat 5 for video. I'm not familiar with that DVR system, but unless it has seperate video outputs for multiple TV's, you will have the same video signal playing on all of the TV's.

Do a simple Google search for "VGA over cat5" and you will find lots of information.

The DVR output will be via the graphics card, transmitted over CAT5 emulating VGA. The different video signal (ie different CCTV camera), will be selected by controlling the DVR software via a remote control, using USB interface. As maximum USB cable length will be exceeded, I also plan to transmit USB over CAT 5, using separate line.

Unfortunately using Google as suggested gives too much information, do any board members recommend specific makes?

Also recommend graphics cards? Would straight VGA better? Even though re-terminating (soldering) new plugs is a real pain with VGA.

It would be cheaper to put a Popcorn Hour in every room. Then just play off a network share via Cat5. Every TV could watch something different that way too.
