  1. I have a large number of videos (about 100), each about 5 minutes long. I've been decrypting them from dvds and using virtual dub to make avi files. I then take them into Sony Vegas and save each 5 minute section to a separate file.

    My question is, because of space on my external hard drives, I've started converting to MP2 instead of .avi (NTSC DV). This means a lot less MBs.

    I will later need to reload these into Vegas and make a DVD compliant file.

    Will I lose more quality when I re-save these combined MP2 files to a new MP2 file?

  2. MP2 generally means an audio file -- MPEG 1 Layer 2 audio. I assume you mean MPG files with MPEG 2 video. Your DVD sources are already MPG. Why bother reencoding them? Just remux from VOB to MPG if necessary. You'll have exactly the same quality as your DVDs.

  3. Sorry, yes I did mean MPEG2 video.

    Remux from VOB to MPG? I'm not good with scripts, and just use the basic parts of Virtual dub (I've also used MPEG-Streamclip, but it keeps crashing on me)

    Can you recommend an easy program to convert from VOB to MPEG2 Video?

  5. If you no longer have the IFO files try AviDemux.

    1) File -> Open...
    2) Format -> MPEG-PS (A+V)
    2) File -> Save...

    Mpg2Cut2 should work too.
