In most respects this is a decent player but the sound is terrible. The last quarter of the sound bar does nothing and even with headphones and the sound up full you can still hear all the back ground noise.Does anyone have any ideas on how to increase the sound range?.

You aren't likely to find a way of increasing the volume as it's simply a function of the hardware. At least not in a simple way such as with a menu option. If you have an electronics background, you could likely open it up and tweak the audio circuit. But even then I wouldn't expect much to be gained, as it is likely just using cheap hardware.
