Hi all, I need to capture some VHS footage, I just cant decide what device i should get, I want the captured footage to be equal in quality to the oringal VHS tape, which is quite good.
The cheapest way would be to get one of these
And a scart converter.
But I'm really not sure how well this would capture the source from a quality point of view, has anyone tried one of these ?
The video footage i want to put onto DVD is only 30 minutes so I can use a high bitrate transfer.
The other option is to get a TV card, not sure what one to get & what leads I'd need though, also my OS is windows XP home sp2 & I've seen some TV cards that say for windows media centre.
Also what software would you reccomend, preferably free.
I really need some advice on this, I'm desperate to buy one of the above but dont want to get the 'wrong one '
Thanks in advance.

Look in restoration form for info on VCRs, TBCs, etc too -- it requires more than a capture device to make a good DVD.

Use Canopus ADVC55 to transfer the video from VCR to your computer. It will give you the best results. You can edit the DV file before convert to DVD.
