    Hi

I would like to know if WMV files are a standard in blu-ray players (I know that PS3 can play wmv).

Will I be able to play WMV files (windows media video 9, wmv3), resolution 320x24, windows media audio V2?

Do all WMV files work in blue-ray players?

    Thank You

Some Bluray players may playback WMV files, but it is not part of the spec, so there is no obligation to do so. The PS3 is capable of playing back many formats that standalone bluray players will not play, so it is not a fair basis for comparison.

Assuming that most bluray players will be attached to at least 720p resolution screens, 320 x 240 is going to look far more horrible that it does normally.

The PS3 does support WMV playback, but it has to be enabled in the System menu.

On blu-ray.com I found this, what does it mean, isn't it the same wmv?

What video codecs will Blu-ray support?

MPEG-2 - enhanced for HD, also used for playback of DVDs and HDTV recordings.
MPEG-4 AVC - part of the MPEG-4 standard also known as H.264 (High Profile and Main Profile).
SMPTE VC-1 - standard based on Microsoft's Windows Media Video (WMV) technology.
Please note that this simply means that all Blu-ray players and recorders will have to support playback of these video codecs, it will still be up to the movie studios to decide which video codec(s) they use for their releases.

VC-1 is standard. I don't read it that WMV, and all that entails, is standard.

You don't understand what this means. What this means is that BluRay discs can be encoded with VC-1 and VC-1 is based on WMV. That is NOT the same thing as saying that any old WMV file will play in a BluRay player. VC-1 was mostly used with HD DVD. While BluRay supports it, I remember reading recently that VC-1 is actually rarely if ever used on BluRay discs.

The Xbox and PS3 are capable of WMV playback, but I've never heard of any standalone BluRay players that support WMV files.
