I have used ripit4me for quite some time to backup my DVDs and noticed its been in circulation for a couple of years. Are there any newer alternatives that any of you have used with some success? I like it, it's a decent program, I just feel like tinkering with and learning something new...
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Um...why does it never cease to amaze me that people feel they have SO much time on their hands to have to have a smart ass reply.
I was simply posing a question. My tenure here has nothing to do with my level of knowledge nor what I have "heard of"
I was simply asking people's opinion. People may have preferences, things they like, don't like, things that may not even be on the tools listing on the board.
If there are any of the above opinions, I'd love to hear them. But thanks so much for taking the time to be a wise cracker. Always keeps the boards interesting with people like you lurking.

You'll have to excuse filmboss80. Though he did offer a solution he did not do it in the most eloquent way.
I believe what he meant was:
HOLY SHIT! You've been here 5 freakin' years and don't know how to use search?! You have no idea where the Tools section is?! Do you even read the god damn front page at all???!!! Stop being so damn lazy!
This is not about opinion. It is about what actually works. Anyone can say that they like SmartRipper best, but it won't rip most of the newer discs out these days.
-
Again...way too much time on your hands. I can read all I want about shrink, decrypter, etc. but what the hell is the point of a board if you can't ask people opinions. THERE IS NONE THEN you fool...
And again, just because someone joined 5 years ago doesn't mean he/she is an expert. Some of us don't have time to be here 5 years and read the board each day.
Those of you who have interest in sharing opinions and pros/cons of tools you have used, I am more than willing to listen. Actually, it'd be a big help. If you want to troll and flame, feel free as well. Just shows that you are clearly know it alls who have a god complex.
-
Actually, I DON'T have a lot of free time to lurk here, but I check the forums quickly a couple of times a day (when I check my e-mail) to see if I can help someone. But sometimes I see a lazy sod whose question can be answered by going here https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/decrypters-dvd-rippers -- instead of gumming up the forum with a way-too-basic inquiry.
Comments and ratings are included in the Tools listings, BTW.
Supreme2k: You articulate things much better than me. Thanks.

Buy and install AnyDVD and you can still use your old tools like dvd shrink, ripit4me.

I'm with 123 here.
Lots of us get by with just basic video knowledge. It's all we need. But occasionally we need an answer to what is to most on here is a very simple question to answer.
But you'll see it's the same names over and over again who slag newbies off because they're not as smart as them.
This might be some advice that these donuts can't understand.........
If you think a question is dumb....don't answer it.
Get it?
(But I don't think they do)

I think i sense some sarcasm in Baldrick's post...
Have you seen how much that cost's
Instead of being so thin skinned, on top of lazy, not my word!! LOL!!
Maybe you should use that little search function in the tools section and look for what filmboss80
already told you
And yes, a little searching probably would have brought up a THOUSAND post's where people ask this same Q and are given the same answer!!

No, I don't have a ton of time on my hands, but I can always make time to school a fool.

Not enough time on your hands?
You seem to have enough to keep posting on this topic.

My back-up package of choice...
DVDFab HD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
ImgBurn
All FREE.
That took just as long to write as the very first reply, but with better results.

123fish123, you want DVDFab HD Decrypter. Just download the latest beta, and make sure you keep checking for updates (which are regular).
Don't worry about these guys, they're just letting off steam after seeing their shares plummet.
It is in the "double secret probation" section.

Goodness guys I don't think I'll buy that BD burner after all. I'm afraid to ask newbie questions
@ 123
I think you overreacted to a rather gentle chide from filmboss80. He did nip you a bit but also gave you the best answer (a free tool) . Most would have laughed that off and taken it as part of the friendly banter that goes on here. He only said what many of us thought also when we saw your post.
Peace
Chide: reproach in a usually mild and constructive manner (merriam-webster)There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.

123fish123,
From what I've seen lately, the studios seem to be significantly backing off the whack-a-doodle "copy protection" schemes they came up with specifically to defeat RipIt4Me. If the trend continues, RipIt4Me should continue to work well for the vast majority of your ripping tasks for the forseeable future.
For the remaining disks (that RipIt4Me can't handle), or if you just want to try something else, the only two rippers that seem to work are DVDFab HD Decrypter (which is free) and AnyDVD (which isn't even reasonably priced, much less free). On the flip side, AnyDVD rips seem to be less prone to problems when forced to deal with whack-a-doodle protections...at least in my own experience.
It's possible that in the future other options may come up, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

To those of you that answered honestly, thanks for supporting the board and those who may not know as much.
To those who apparantly entertained yourselves for hours after I was gone last night, thank you for proving my point. You have no lives and showed it here to everyone. Good job! I am sure you're all very proud. :lmao:

Anyway, the problem is solved, isn't it? DVDFab HD Decrypter was mentioned in the very first reply of this thread, and a consensus has built for it throughout this thread.
Gll99 was quite correct about the gentle chide. All my remarks, though sometimes teasing, are offered with a smile. You need not be so thin-skinned and easily offended. We just like to have a bit of fun here.
Hope your new ripping tool works out for you.
