Can anybody suggest a good program (preferably free) that I can split the audio and video files and edit the audio exclusively? My goal is to be able to edit some language out of the movies and back them up for my kids. After much testing and trying dozens of different programs I have found the ones that I can use efficiently to edit whole scenes...I just haven't been able to do it with the audio exclusively. I use DVD shrink, then videoredo. to edit. (I know that vid-redo is a trial and am going to have to pay for it later) I use mpeg stream clip to convert (for some reason the editing in this is somewhat cumbersome on my computer) Can I use re do to do this? if so, how? I am a musician and I have Adobe Audition to edit my music. I have become pretty adept with that. Is there any progams that work the same? My concern is keeping everything sync'd properly. I have spent a lot of time getting to this point and these forums have helped tremendously. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, DVDShrink has a Re-Author mode, which if use can rip audio(language) of choice..As Does DVDDecrypter in 'IFO mode',as does DVDFab 'Custom' backup..
If you have proper DVD compliant file(s) on your HDD,you could use PGCDemux to extract video and audio streams, which you can then import in your choice of editor(s)..

You can use PGCDemux to demux audio stream from video and edit.
Audition should be able to do it. Only problem I see that you cannot cut pieces of audio out because it will get out of sync after remuxing.
It has to keep the same length as original.
Other thing is that audio on DVD is most likely AC3 and not too many editors work with that format, it will have to be converted to WAV.
    BeeSweet is OK for that.
To get it back together Muxman should do, and than some authoring software to make DVD.

You can use DGMPGDec (DGIndex) to demultiplex video & audio from .mpg video files

You can use audacity to edit the audio, but audition is much more powerful so if you have that you are set

You can use muxman or imagompeg-muxer to re-multiplex, or use dvd authoring software like guifordvd author or dvdauthorgui
