Well, my Philips DVP642 finally kicked the bucket after numerous years of service. I happened to have a gift card for Best Buy and headed off for a replacement. I was looking to get another Philips as they are cheap and fairly reliable. I use this player for mostly Divx playback, so that was about my only criteria for the replacement. The only Philips on the shelf was a return and I didn't want to deal with something that was previously opened and returned. There were several other choices, but I ended up going with the Samsung 1080P8.
So far it has played pretty much everything I've put into it. The one nice feature I've found so far, is it will remember where you stopped playing. Most players have this feature for DVD playback, this is the first player I've used that has it for file playback.
