What exactly is so "Super" about a bowl? Does it contain neverending ice cream? Popcorn? Is it a different type of "bowl" altogether? One that is 'evergreen', never cached?

    Football is absolutely retarded...
A bunch of really big guys line up in front of each other.
They run into each other and all fall down.
    Repeat 3 or 4 times.
Then one of them gets a bright idea and tells another to 'run over there' so he can throw the ball to him.
His friend doesn't catch the ball...
    They all line up again.
They run into each other and all fall down.
    Repeat 3 or 4 times.

I'd rather watch grass grow or paint dry.

  7. If its on NBC or ABC, (and I am able to receive it: they prob turn up the wattage for this event) then I'll prob just record *some* of the HD content: just to see how much they pixelate this suposively great event.

FYI it's on NBC I believe vhelp......

EDIT - thanks medico_brujo - I was going to do a superbowl poll but you beat me to it. Congrats

EDIT 2 - fyi at vhelp nbc is 1080i and the general consesus here is that 1080i is not great for sports. In fact I have my cable dvr box set to output all hd channels at 720p (my set is 720p - native res is 1366x768).

Yeah, the 720p ESPN feed (ABC uses that as well) is always better than CBS or NBC.

For the last 30 years, I only watched an occasional college game. But I confess since we got 2 HDTVs this year, I've watched a few pro games.

I expected such comments as those above from the Swedes and Aussies and such, but not from fellow Yanks. Sorry so many of you could never learn to appreciate the artistry of the long-bomb pass; the thrill of the bone-jarring tackle; or the triumph of the goal-line stand. To me, it is three hours of pure enjoyment. I suppose it is an acquired taste, like Cuban cigars or Italian coffee. But man, I have to wonder if you guys truly know what you're missing.

I will be watching in HD. My sons and I will be cheering for Kurt Warner and the Arizona Cardinals. I wish I could be at the game, elevated by the crowd, but TV will have to do.

football players absolutely destroy their bodies to where they are completely unusable by their mid 30's. And there is definite permanent brain damage sustained by taking those blows.

I'm much safer here behind the keyboard .

Such a better experience in HD! Yeah...Kurt Warner is great. I grew up with Rams season tickets here in So Cal so to see him win that superbowl 8 years ago makes me love him forever

If I had a choice of being forced to watch a Football Game or going to the Emergency Room with a Head Injury, I would take the Head Injury!

Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love football. I used to go to the Buffalo Bill games as a kid. Tickets were $1 to sit in the end zone. My father has had two season tickets on the 50 yard line since the league started in about 1960. I used to watch OJ run the ball when I was in college. OJ and Jim Brown were the best ever. Should be a great game. Pittsburgh has what may be the best defensive team of all time. Arizona is going to get their ass kicked. I went out and bought a bunch of food for my superbowl party yesterday. I'm making pizza and all sorts of munchies of course.

I'm watching it this year but in the past SuperBowl Sunday was the best ski day of the year with extremely short lift lines. The lift operators updated scores on a white board.

I did the ski thing one year--I agree it was great. Even though I'm not a huge football fan, I have to admit that it's a great spectator game. There are plenty of times to get up and look away (between plays) while also some clearly important times where spectators really want to watch.

I heard years ago that movies which maintain a constant high level of engagement tend to not fair very well with the public, because most audiences need some time for their brains to relax and not pay such close attention. Great movies have high points, and boring parts too. American football takes that lesson to heart, as opposed to sports like soccer that can have a fast break at any time.

I'm not saying it's a great sport, but they sure got the approach right for keeping people tuning with high points and slow points, in my opinion.

In my experience CBS has the best quality in football. Its 1080i like NBC but NBC is the worst. FOX and ESPN are 720p. Usually ESPN usually looks better than FOX but its at night so it doesn't have the problems FOX has to deal with with the harsh sun and shadows, etc.

One thing NBC is good with is the audio. That is something CBS always has problems with constantly flipping from 5.1 to 2.0.

Instead of panning to the cheerleaders in between plays, they always cut to some old guy with a moustache and a windbreaker - scowling. I'll never understand this. Actually, I wouldn't mind the cheerleaders on 90% of the time and an occasional cut to the game.
