    hello VH members,


    I'm trying to convert mkv file to avi with the same quality using Xilisoft MKV Converter but i can't. can anyone tell me how to do that with Xilisoft MKV Converter or other program ?

    You may need about double the bitrate and double the filesize or a bit less to keep the same quality, assuming conversion to Divx/Xvid. But it depends on the bitrate/quality of the MKV file.

    To begin with, how is the video encoded ? It may need to be converted if it is H264 video, in which case take note of Redwudz advice, as it is sage indeed. However mkv can be compressed in many different ways. It could be that all it needs is to be repackaged into an AVI container, in which case no re-encoding is necessary.

    Without knowing what is in the box, it is hard to say what you need to do. Although personally, I wouldn't use Xilisoft tools if quality is high on th elist of requirements.

    I would use xvid4psp, load the mkv, choose the avi hardware profile, under audio choose copy, convert. You can adjust bitrate if you like under video and click on the e-button.
