Hi,
I'm new to video editing and I am currently using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 12. In one section of the video I am editing I would like to be able to convert a color film to black and white but preserve a single color while doing so. See this picture for an example of what I mean:
Could somebody please tell me if Pinnacle can do this or if they know of a plugin that can (even if it is not free)? Do any other video editing packages offer this effect?
I much appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks
Steve
PS: Apologies if this is not the right forum for this kind of question.

You can come close to this effect with a CMYK filter. It split up colors into 4 instead of 3 like RGB does.
blue, red, yellow and black. Just zero two of the first three colors (CMY).
Apps like Photoshop have it but I don't know about Pinnacle Studio.
You can use VirtualDub with the "gradation.vdf" plugin and convert to a clip that can be imported in
Pinnacle Studio.

Sony Vegas can do this.

Here is a method using Premiere : http://www.wrigleyvideo.com/videotutorial/tutdes_colorpass.htm
You will have to work out what tools Pinnacle has that can produce equivalent effects.Read my blog here.

Wow! Thank you very much for the quick and detailed replies. You've really given me some good pointers. I'm sure I'll be able to find something among that which will give me what I need.
Thanks

Hi,
Studio 12 can do this if you have the plugin BWPLUGINS 2 installed and then use the 'AutoRoto' filter.
This plugin costs money. Alternatively you could try JPs Effects using the colour change 2 option and play around with that to achieve a similar effect?
You can find JPs Effects at http://www.jpseffects.de/JPsEffects_EN.html and there is a version for studio 12 -
I haven't tried it, but it seems you should be able to do this with the AviSynth Tweak() filter. The example in the documentation turns a single color range gray while keeping the rest of the colors intact, but the reverse should also be doable.
