I would like to make an avi file from a series of numbered static images e.g. jpg, bmp or png files. I would like to use avi as I know that this can be started and stopped in a MS Powerpoint presentation simply by mouse clicking on the avi movie as it plays during presentation mode. Are there any reasonably simple freeware programs out there that will allow me to make such avi files from a series of simple images?

Aplogies if this is an old question - I am just an old scientist looking for some help!

    Thanks,
    Brian.

It should work with virtualdub, open the first image and all should automatically be loaded(if they are named correctly like image001.jpg, image002.jpg, image003.jpg,etc). Under Video->Compression choose a compression or leave it uncompressed(HUGE), File->Save as avi

Windows Movie Maker will handle the images.
Set the output to dv-avi instead of wmv.
You'll need lots of hd space for a long movie.
best of all, the software is included as part of xp.

Many thanks for your replies. I tried the virtualdub as it appears to have more features, e.g. compression types etc, and it worked perfectly first time! Thanks again for your help,
    Brian.
