Okay I have a mv4 file and a srt (subtitle) file. For the past six hours I have been trying to combine them to make them play on my iphone. I have googled this to no avail and read everything I could on this site (but it makes no sense b/c you guys & gals assume us dumb-dumbs would understand -- I don't). I have tried through vlc export wizard, ffmepgx, handbrake, toast and quicktime. Nothing works. I can watch the film with the subtitles on in vlc no problem but I can't seem to combine the two.

Yes I have perian and no it doesn't work in quicktime.
Yes I have dl mpeg2en, mencoder and whatever the 3rd one is.

Maybe I'm just not doing it right in ffmepgx. Could someone please tell me step by step (really I'm stupid when it comes to this) how to do this. I know that you add srt files in the "filter" box but I have no idea what burn means, the size, pos, VOB etc. It's all greek to me.

Also what format should I choose to convert the .mv4 file into?

Yes the .mv4 and the .srt file are named the exact same!

please help with simple steps (even if they seem obvious, trust me they are NOT to me)

    danke! merci! thanks!

I'm on a Macbook pro late 2008, 300 GB, 2 GB ram, intel latest mac os X

You can check google for "Submerge", if I'm not mistaken it can export to AppleTV and also iPhone.

Of course you can simply "merge" your mv4 file with the srt file
