I have just bought a blu ray player (yesterday) and I have an MKV file of about 1.5Gb. What can I use to put this onto 4 DVD-R disks so I can play it with the new machine? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

If the mkv is blu-ray compliant you can try tsmuxer or multiavchd and output as a blu-ray folder.

If those tools complain(the mkv is not blu-ray compliant) then you probably must reconvert to blu-ray video, use for example d2mp, ripbot264 or xvid4psp.

Burn the blu-ray BDMV folder using Imgburn.

Why do you need 4 DVD's for a 1.5GB file?

That's a really good question. For some reason just for a minute there I was thinking DVD-Rs held about 400 MBs instead of 4Gbs. A senior moment even for me! Thanks. (Think I'll go back to bed!)
