xvid4psp vs handbrake?

Not sure if this is the right forum but as the output files are to be used on the PS3 I thought I would start here. I have successfully used both of these programs and have the output files (mp4/h.264) files working on the PS3. My question is which program is better? I know it is an opinion thing but I wanted to hear a few? The two most important things to be are 1.) quality of the output (both video and audio) and 2) the time it takes to encode.

I am currently ripping my dvd's with dvdfab. I would also like to keep the process somewhat simple. Let me know what most of you PS3 users are doing?

Both uses x264 so you should get similar quality if you use same encoding settings(bitrate, constant quality encode mode, etc).

I prefer Xvid4PSP, it allows you complete control over your conversions.

Speed-wise ( ) , they are virtually the same since (as already mentioned) they both use x264.exe for encoding Xbox 360/PS3 MP4 files.

Personally, i've been playing with a few FFmpeg scripts for H.264/AAC encoding, which does seem a litttle faster.

Have either of you used the encoding feature on dvdfab? It is in the platnium version (just using trial)? It has a h.264 option as well? I am looking at it from the ease of use. You can decrypt and encode in one go?

Sorry for late reply, but I'm trying out what you are saying right now. The reason is that I learnt somewhere that on the legacy XBox (which is what I use to stream my videos using XBMC), at higher resolutions / bitrate, XviD encoding does not really honor the bitrate max setting. It simply "tries to". So in high motion sequences, playback stutters. Whilel Xvid4PSP does allow you to change the FOURCC setting to DIVX from the default XVID it is not really using XVID for encoding.

I have used DVDFAB to backup my DVDs using H264/MP4 which my legacy XBox can handle. But for higher resolutions I have used AVI/XVID since H264/MP4 proves too much for it. So I'm now going to try AVI/DIVX with DVDFAB. If you are interested in knowing the results please reply here, and I will post them.

UPDATE: DVDFAB does the same thing as XviD4PSP. Does not actually use DIVX codec but uses XVID. Only changes the FOURCC tag in the file to say "DIVX". BOGUS. Attempt aborted.

Handbrake or Staxrip is the way to go with AVI/DIVX
