Hi all - I think this is like my 2nd post.

I have spent a while searching and reading around, but can't seem to nail a solution.

Like the subject states, I would like to do something on my PC and capture it to my Video Camera.

I am tried using FRAPS, but I want to get a better quality for when I put it online.

Yes, I am mainly doing game capture, but I am not happy with the quality that I have been getting on YouTube, but the MP4 is a little better, so I think it just might be the source?

Here is a sample of what I did:

thanks for any help and guidance anyone might have.

    What camera?

You would need to encode exactly to what that camera accepts. Analyze what it puts out first with GSpot and mediainfo then search online for others doing this with that same camera. Ask them.

Hi there - I have a Canon GL2 , if I need to get a capture card so that I can get the video to it, that is fine.

I am very green and new to this, but I would simply like to be able to capture a higher quality session and put clips on there on the net to share.

    again thanks for the help.

The GL2 is a MiniDV camcorder. You just need a Firewire (IEEE-1394) port and you are set. Use WinDV to transfer DV video back and forth to the cam. Use Virtualdub with Cedocida DV codec to convert other formats to DV.

okay, so that easy then? While playing a game on the PC, use the 1394 and the GL2 to capture what I am playing?

Then use software with the GL2 to bring it back to clip what I want to share and post it online?

  6. So you are trying to go from the PC to the cam while playing a game?

If so, you will need a special driver that can capture the contents of the screen and send them to a DV format file which you can then send to the cam (after you have stopped playing the game).

Or, if your computer's graphics card has S-video output, connect that to the cam's S-video input.

Nobody said anything about real time. You said you use FRAPS. The resulting file is convered to DV with Virtualdub. Then you can dub the DV file to the camcorder with WinDV.

You can record the S-Video port like suggested by John.

Or for higher quality go for analog component out to an AVS Pyro and from there to the Canon over firewire.

  10. If you want to post it online then you almost certainly don't want to use the DV format. Windows Media Encoder has a screen capture option that can create WMV format files in realtime (or you can stream them live, too). The quality will depend on your PC's power and the frame rate of your games.

I got the Windows Media Encoder and I attempted to use the S-Video, but I can't seem to get a signal to the camera.

    Any pointers?

Why the camcorder? That is the confusion. WME has nothing to do with the camcorder.

You would go to the camcorder in DV format for playback in SD to a TV.

For YouTube stay on the computer and encode there to a streaming format.

I can see why that would be confusing.

When I record with FRAPS to the PC while I am playing a game. The quality is pretty good, but when I put it up on YouTube, it looses something.

I saw someone that posted something on YouTube that was from a CamCorder and it looked very nice.

    My ultimate goal here is:

Capture/Record my PC gaming and get the best quality possible on YouTube.

I do not have to use FRAPS, but it is an easy program to use. I just thought perhaps recording to my Gl2 would be a better source?

For better quality you would get a display card with 720p Component out and record to say a Blackmagic Intensity Pro, then encode to flash at 720p.

    Some ideas in this thread.

  15. I think you have entered weird and not-so-wonderful world of YouTube quality. I've only put a couple up there and the quality wasn't really what I had hoped for (to say the least).

Based on what I have read on this forum and elsewhere, getting high quality video on YouTube is something of a black art (or at least requires certain formats/dimensions etc).

With WME, you can create the WMV format files. Depending on what others more experienced with obtaining higher quality YouTube results suggest, these WMV files may need converting to another format before uploading.

If you are using WME, you setup would be:

WME screen capture source -> WME -> WMV format file -> Some other format -> YouTube

Naturally, up to and including the creating of the WMV file is real-time. After that, you need to convert the file.

There are other screen capture DirectShow filters available that could be used with other programs (e.g, GraphEdit) to create different formats (mp4 perhaps) on-the-fly.
