I found this ADS Tech USB splitter in one of my old carryalls; its about a foot long overall and each of the dual USB output sockets has its own LED. Its a gizmo from back when laptops occassionally needed a 2nd USB port.

Well, back then USB was prob'ly only 1.1; my question (just can't remember ) - is there anything about the hardware itself that limited transfer speeds, or will this work fine with all USB 2.0 stuff?

  2. Your USB 1.1 hub will work with USB 2.0 devices but it will only run at USB 1.1 speeds. 12 Mb/s vs 480 Mb/s.

  4. Those USB hubs if they are not powered and if you connect something that may need more power will not work correctly. Regarding USB speed it is usually controlled from the computer's controller, to test plug in one of those flash drives if it sees it as USB 1 then you will get a pop up in your systray that this is a slow USB.

You can get a new USB 2.0 hub for a couple bucks from Hong Kong sellers on eBay so it's probably best to go that route.
