Verbatim Fakes At Futureshop?

I just came accross made in China Verbatims from Futureshop. Are they outsourcing to China as well as India or are these in all likelyhood fakes?

You would believe Futureshop would check their sources a little better than that.

Also, i can not find where it states those are made in china ??

Have there been any cases of retail fakes before in the US or Canada?

I've heard of MIC Verbatims in the EU market, but it looks like they've made their way to NA.

I happened to be in Future Shop today and saw these as I was standing in line at the checkout. Label on the back said they were made in Taiwan so I bought a pack just to try them out. Burned a few and they seem to be typical Verbatim discs.

I live in Hong Kong. You'd think if there were Made-In-China Verbatims we'd see them here. But I've only noticed Taiwan and Japan on the labels. (I buy the Japanese ones myself, made by Taiyo Yuden.)

The MIC Verbatims are only the 10pcs and look exactly like the link photo above. Check the label. Some are Made In Taiwan, majority have the made in China label at the back.. I bought the MIT and I agree they burn fine. Haven't scanned them in Nero yet.

I've only seen then in Futureshop.

They're manufactured by CMC Magnetics, who has begun producing more and more Verbatim media in China, as opposed to just Taiwan. So far, every disc has burned and played back fine (TRT), although I'm currently unable to perform any scans.

Based on what others have said, I'd expect error counts to be higher than those of Taiwanese discs. However, given the stability of this particular dye, there's a good chance that degradation won't be an issue.

Yep, MCC 03RG20.

The same code as the similarly packaged Taiwanese discs.

Verbatim "made in China" CD-R have been common for a while now, though most of it was outside the USA.

Just a heads up that sale for $1.99 a 10 pc is currently on at Futureshop until Thursday. All the packs seem to be Chinese made CMC Verbatim. They've scanned and tested well so far. No visible irregularities in the dye either.
