There are 2 issues with foreign DVDs -- region coding and video systems standards. Region 2 discs from Japan are of the NTSC standard and will play in US DVD players, but region 2 discs from Europe or Egypt will not because they are of the PAL system.

Although there are no region hacks listed for your particular model, you can back up a region 2 disc to a region-free DVD-R using DVDFab HD Decrypter.

Sony players typically support region free or they don't. Very few are actually hackable, and the ones that are, require special hardware, not a simple remote hack. From what I can find, this player is not hackable, but the suggestion above by filmboss80 may work for most discs.
