Sticky Labels - once dead, now fine

Back in 2004 I labeled a few DVDs. After a few weeks the DVDs got unreadable, of course.
Just last week I threw one of these dead disks into my new standalone - and it started to play fine.
So I scanned 3 of these once dead disk with Nero´s speed disk. And all came out Green.
I even put them in my very old DVD Standalone, same that didn´t play them back in 2004. Surprise, they all played well now.

Is there any logical, chemical or whatever explanation for that ?
Anyone else beeing surprised with that behaviour ?

Consider it a Christmas miracle.

Okay, maybe the chemical structure of the adhesive changed over time and the labels fused tighter to the disc surfaces....but I prefer the miracle theory.

Probably just the use of a better player for marginal discs.
