  1. I'm using Xilsoft DVD Ripper to convert some footage to AVI, but even with the video quality settings set to highest, the AVI quality is much worse. Is there better programs out there for DVD to AVI or possibly to MP4? What do you guys use?

    Thanks

    I use

    To AVI DivX/Xvid
    AutoGK or Fairuse Wizard

    To mp4 h264
Fairuse Wizard or Xvid4psp or Ripbot264 or Handbrake

and if the output file size is does not matter then use Constant Quality encoding mode in those tools(also called constant quantizer encoding) or else use 2-pass encoding and set the file size.

  4. "Without quality loss.." pretty much means you're going to have quite large files. One problem you might have is that some devices require files to be smaller than 2gb (Fat32) also the bitrate might be too high for some devices.
I use the same progs as above, but dont do any h264 (yet).

  5. The size of the files doesn't matter in my case. I'm taking these large files and maybe only using 10 to 15 short (3-10 seconds) clips for a sports highlight film. But I would like these clips to be as good quality as they are on DVD.

    I'm trying the AutoGK right now. . . . .

  8. I tried AutoGK with the target quality set to 100 percent. The finalized avi was just barely better then what Xilixoft produced but still not up to par, and it took almost 3 hours to render on a AMD x2 6400 pc. I'm trying the FairUse now. . .

Is MP4 typically better quality then AVI?
