    Hey guys.
Hope I am posting this in the right section, if not mods kindly move it.
I just recently purchased Philips DVP 5990/37
My issue is most AVI files I download when burned as data to dvd after a minute of LOAD just says NO DISC and if I try to play from memory card it just says MEDIA EMPTY, it does'nt prompt an error or codec issue, just says NO DISC or MEDIA EMPTY

I have googled for info on solving this issue or even finding cause of it but cant seem to pinpoint it.

Finally I compared 2 similar files One that works and one that does not and analysed it through mediainfo and the results are surprisingly similar, both are xvid and mp3 audio.

I am attaching both files media info output if someone could please pinpoint the cause and possibly a fix for this I would greatly appreciate it.

I didn't look at the specs, but from past experience, regardless of the file type, the player should be able to read the disc without any errors. The error you are getting (NO MEDIA) would seem to indicate a media issue. I suspect you are using a brand/type of media that the player doesn't like or having some sort of burning issue.

This means the disc was not finalized. Don't use multisession. Burn as a single session and be sure to finalize the disc. Otherwise, I didn't see anything unusual about the file that wouldn't play.

krispykritter : the working dvd is on same type of media

jagabo - thats possible am going to try that now, however I dont see any other way of trasferring media files to the USB, which also shows as empty media card

  5. Try an 8.3 format name with only alphanumeric characters like VIDEO.AVI or 4X12.AVI.

Also maybe try reformatting the USB Drive to FAT/FAT32 format if it isnt.

Jagabo, I tried that on USB but not working.

You did however solve the dvd issue, finalizing and verifying after burn does the trick now all files are playable

    Thanks a lot

jjmon - the usb is fat32 partition

    I'll check that part later

  8. Can the Philips player read any AVI files from the USB device? There is a problem with software that comes installed on some thumb drives. U3 I think it is. If you uninstall the software (reformatting is part of the process, I believe) you should be able to use the thumb drive. This is a problem for all the Philips players with USB.
