I have a hp dvd writer 740b and for some reason it's only reading lightscribe discs when I try to burn a movie. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, nothing. Also when I try to update the drivers I get the blue screen of death which says something about the pool header???? I've tried dvd-r, dvd+r and dvd+rw and the drive won't recognize them. Even tried another drive, same thing. It will read and play store bought movies. Did discover it's only reading slower speed discs not the 16X speed which it should

cd/dvd drives don't have individual drivers. they all use the same microsoft one. all that's needed is the uninstall/reboot.

try using imgburn to burn discs.
