Problems with LG GH22LS30 Read speed

I am trying to use DVD Decryptor or DVD shrink to take off the movie files of a DVD. Before, I had an external Phillips DVD burner. It had speeds of about 15x when reading DVD's using either of those programs. Now I have an internal LG Sata DVD burner model GH22LS30. This exact one.

I can only get read speeds up to about 5x. Nowhere close to my old Phillips. Nero drivespeed is set to fastest possible(16x). I have tried multiple solutions. Things I have tried: Downloading drivers from LG, downloading mobo drivers, buying another of the exact same model DVD burner from Fry's, installing that, same problem, and returning it, checking if Device Manager was set to DMA if available for all the IDE channels, calling LG.


I called LG again. This time, the guy told me the reason it's reading movie DVD's slowly is because the drive is crippled for movie dvd's to make it quieter...

If that's the case, then why is Nero drivespeed set to 16x? Why does Newegg state drive read speed at 16x? Why can't I disable that feature if that's what the problem really is?

I don't think the LG guy is correct this time, doesn't make any sense to me.

LG is known to have riplock on their drives which simply means it can't rip at fast speeds like PIONEER drives. If you want fast rip speeds then buy a PIONEER or SAMSUNG dvd burner.

BTW DVD DECRYPTER & DVD SHRINK are no longer updated.
Whatever LG told you about ripping dvd movies slowly is a bunch of BS. If you're ripping commercial dvd discs that are dual layer they aren't going to rip at 16x speed. You'll be lucky it can rip at 12x speeds. Some dvd burners can rip at faster speeds by flashing the drives using MEDIA CODE SPEED EDIT.
