I've been using Mepis 7.0 and really like Debian based distros over Red Hat. The main reason is I really like the apt-get command and prefer Synoptic over Yast2 or any other package manager...
However how do I enable the root account so I can login via the gui like I can on other Linux boses?
I know about using the sudo command via a terminal session but just curious on how to enable the root login...
Thanks kindly

The root account by default is disabled when Ubuntu is installed resulting in the need to constantly use the su or sudo
This link here resolved my issue and I post it here in case anyone elses has this need....

Ubuntu's belief is that all users are untrusted idiots who must be protected from direct root access. While there are things I generally like about Ubuntu, this isn't one of them. buzzqw's post is the quick way to do it.
Hi,
If you just want to poke around in the system files just doorCode:gksu nautilus
which will give you root privileges in the filesystem so you can do what you like.Code:gksudo nautilus
