Sony Blocks Movies from Xbox 360

Sony Pictures halts the release of streamed media with Xbox360 users that have a Netflix subscription.

No but this is like Sony refusing to let their DVD's work on a Toshiba DVD player.

Close but netflix does have other distribution outlets besides the 360.

This is bad for 360 users who are netflix junkies. BUT its not the same as hddvd because that was an all or nothing type of thing. With netflix you can still stream to the pc or get a physical disc. This is bad for reducing the conveninece to a console of course.

I guess we shouldn't be suprised Sony would be back to its strong arm tactics.

Sony should let playstation 3 and xbox stream the netflix content. I own PS3 and can't stream anything netflix. This kind of attitude from corporations promotes piracy.

And I was considering a PS3 as a UPnP player. I'll look elsewhere.

This article is referring to the 360 not the ps3.

And actually since the ps3 can handle m2ts in some fashion and has better mp4 support there is nothing wrong with its multimedia capabilites.

Granted you have the fat32 limit if you hook up external harddrives. Or you could upgrade the internal harddrive without voiding the warranty from what I am told. However you should check with SONY before doing that just to be on the safe side.

Although with that new WD Media player that may be a more attractive option. Since that does support NTFS that may be the way to go. DLINK, or is it LINKSYS? THere is a dual harddrive UPNP network adapter you can get for under 200.00. I don't know its multimedia capability but the fact it supports two harddrives is impressive.

By the way, just curious what are you looking for in a upnp player? Do you need it to be wireless? There are wireless N players from Dlink and Linksys now that claim high def support. Also of course there is the SLINGBOX series.

My point was not XBox vs. PS3 but Sony vs. less draconian UPnP media player supplier. Games are secondary. The PC is an adequate game platform for me. I'm concerned about committing the living room to Blu-Ray and Sony. Alternative is to bypass Blu-Ray for another HD strategy.

On Black Friday I purchased a large wall/floor drill that I'll use to run Cat6 Ethernet to living room and all bedrooms. Cables will meet at a central patch panel - gigabit switch in the basement. An existing wireless G router will service the laptops.
