I have six Hi 8 tapes which I captured to HD via a Sony Digital 8 camera.
The DV captures all have similar technical specs ..which as Media Info shows is

So I now need to output the onto DVD.
- I will have to edit the raw capture to remove some rough bits at the
beginning and ends...plus remove a few points during the tape where the camera
was stopped and started.
- Then I need to encode the Video part to MPEG2 using CCE via Avisynth.
- Convert the Audio to 48KHz and convert to AC3.
- Take the Video and Audio into DVDLab and add Chapter points and simple Menu
and output as DVD...then burn to DVD.
So I need some advice ...
What is a good and easy to use editor that I could do the cutting with??
(Similar to MPEG Video Wizard for MPEG2 editing)
ie do cuts on timeline and output the edited DVfile back as new DV file(ready to be encoded in CCE)
The audio needs obviously to have the sample rate changed to 48KHz.
Is there a tool that I could use to do this plus encode as AC3???
I know its asking a lot...
or do I have to do the resampling ...then output a WAVE file
then encode as AC3..ready for Authoring?? ie three separate tasks and tools
or should I be asking this Part in the Audio Forum??
Any advice appreciated...

From reading an earlier post I realise now that using the Sony Digital 8 camera
has allowed the capture to convert to Sony DV for the video...
and then the audio is the originally captured 32KHz PCM audio.
So will I need to install Cedocida DV codec to allow me to edit the DV??
Is there a simple timeline based editor that I could do the editing of the DV video part?
(as mentioned similar to the very easy to use MPEG Video Wizard for MPEG2) -
I just tried using AviDemux to do simple editing...remove bits at beginning and end
and then output a copy..ie unchanged format
It split the output into 4 gb chunks...what the heck?(original was around 20Gb)
Does AviDemux operate as though its in FAT32 land?
Any ideas? -
Yeah ..thanks poisondeathray!...I just found that out myself as well!!
Can nothing be straightforward...
See how this goes now... -
ticking that open dml setting box did the trick!!
nice big fat 20Gb avi...now to edit the five other DV captures -
Yes I've used it before; the audio from aften is good
It uses ffmpeg for the MPEG2 engine, which is fairly good. Personally I think CCE and HCenc maybe slightly better in terms of quality. You can test it out on some short samples to see for yourself
In terms of speed, HCenc scales better with more cores and is faster.
If you are happy with CCE and now have an edited DV-AVI to input then go you're all set!
