Hi. I was wondering how an AVCHD DVD disc is created on a mac. I know how it's done on a windows computer, but I don't have access to a windows computer that is fast enough to transcode HD video. I can't seem to find any information on how to do this. Can anyone help me out?

Some recommend not using AVC for high definition discs on Mac. Longer encodes tend to have a/v sync issues. In Compressor, for example, it's Blu-ray setting uses high bitrate MPEG2 (which is a part of the standard). If you have it, you can also use the Episode encoder (it has settings that can be tweaked for AVC, MPEG2 and VC-1).
look for tsmuxer. It's used to turn ripped Blue Ray movies into avc hd disc to play on hardware like Playstation 3 but I'm sure some of the info can be helpful to you.
I'm looking for something similar that would allow me to convert my hd mkv files to AVCHD. My sony Bu-Ray player will play back dvds that are encoded with these files. Any instructions? The usual mac apps (ffmpegX, VisualHub R.I.P., MPEG Streamclip) don't seem to be able to do the job. From what I've seen on the internet, it is possible to create these disks relatively easily on a PC. Arghh!
I have worked out a way to do it. I have made five AVCHD discs so far. The How-To is still being drafted, and hopefully I will be able to release it soon.

any hints?
i haven't created any new applications. That is all i can say at age moment.Originally Posted by peckinpahhttp://www.pcpodcast.org (Website Under Construction)
I have used Toast 9 to create AVCHD DVD-R discs that have played successfully on my PS3. The encode times were very slow, however.
I'm trying to avoid re-encoding the material. My understanding is that on a PC it's really easy to just convert the container without altering the actual image. It should also be a lot faster.
if you could hint at what apps you're using, I might be able to figure it out myself...
Any new info here for Mac users? Thought I should resurrect a thread from the dead for Halloween... ; )
