I am converting a black and white (monochrome) film from PAL to NTSC using Procoder.
It does an excellent job, but there does seem to be a colour component to the convertion.
By that, I mean that the black is not true black and the white not pure white (akin to watching
a colour tv program on a black and white television!)
Could someone advise me on which filters I should use, and the settings I shoiuld use.

And how did you determine it was too light or too dark?

The color space for NTSC video should be 16 to 235. PAL is 0 to 255. When you convert to NTSC, Procoder is doing its job and creating a NTSC video with the correct 16 to 235 color space. 16 is not as black as 0 and 235 is not as white as 255. You can expand the color space in Procoder to 0 to 255 but your NTSC video will be out of spec and many TVs will crush the blacks and whites or in some cases bloom and smear the display.
