I have a JVC HR-S9911 S-VHS deck that I use for transfer of video. Lately, I've been getting some interference at the top of the image while the TBC is enabled. If I turn if off, I can still see what looks like tearing at the top of the image.
I was just wondering if anyone has had this and knows a quick fix.
Image below is shown with TBC enabled.

I would think either the tape has been magnetically or mechanically damaged on the edge, or the supply reel brake is loose on the VCR.
Try another VCR. If it plays ok, then the 9911's brake could be out of adjustment.
I'll assume you cleaned the heads already..... -
One of the few cases where you may need to outsource the tapes -- unless you're prepared to buy more VCRs. Something like this is often "fixed" by simply using another machine, such as a Panasonic AG-1980P.
I've handled many tapes like this through the years.
If it cannot be fixed, there are other ways to minimize the damage and create a semi-restored disc that is missing the nuisance errors.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
