Received some legacy files from a client in format .MooV. We need to convert these to a usable format.
When I load them up in quicktime pro (in OS 10.4, Quicktime 7) we see nothing but black, but the audio works. Leads me to believe we dont have the correct codec.
Movie Inspector shows MoviePak video.
Also tried loading them on OS 9.1 Quicktime 4, same problem. Installed Quicktime 2.5 on an OS 9.1 system, and they present the same problem.
Any idea where I can get a codec that may work for me? Or how I can get these files into a usable format?

Google is your friend:
go here and download the MoviePak application, and put it on a Mac running OS 9.1
(9.22 would probably be ok also) and see if it will read the file in the MoviePak app.
If so, see if it will allow you to convert it to a QT movie file, using
the QT Animation codec or the QT Motion Jpeg-A codec for video.
If you can't get this to work, post up one of the legacy files on
a filesharing site, and I'll be happy to try it on my end."Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

When I'm not here, Where can I be found?

Wow, I guess I need to sharpen my google skills. We've been searching for days and didn't find that one. Thanks!!
I installed both versions of the MoviePak application and it installs 2 control panels and an extension. The extension installs fine but does not seem to allow playing of video in Quicktime.
The 2 control panels are RasterOps Controls and RasterOps Video. The first one runs, but does not seem to do anything (seems connected to special hardware). The second (RasterOps video) presents an error: "The control panel "RasterOps video" can not be used on this machine".
I've posted a zip file on our webserver at: http://downloads.overdrivedesign.com/moov/DiamondBrilliance1.zip
Thanks for the help! I'll keep digging and let you know if I find anything else as well. -
GOT IT!!
Found the codec needed (Codec was from 1992) on an old G4 Cube!
It was a pain getting the extension off the system because if the file was ever moved to an OS X system it would corrupt. Had to use an OLD verion of stuffit Lite (1.5.1...yikes) to compress it and then move it over.
Installed it into the extensions folder, loaded up quicktime and voila, the system now plays the file. I converted them into a modern day quicktime format using Apple Animation encoding.
I've attached a SIT file with the codec in case anyone needs it.

Thanks for that codec, Joey. It works well in Classic as well as in
native OS9. It could be a useful addition to my toolkit.Al Bloom
