ps3 overscan problem

is there anyway to watch dvd movies in a ps3 with a lcdtv without the annoying overscan(cropping of both side)?

Get a TV that doesn't overscan. Many newer HDTVs have the option.

but l have just bought it recently, and it can support all the input, d sub, dvi, hdmi, component, composite and s video, any idea?

Does the PS3 have VGA output? Most HDTVs don't overscan the VGA input.

Your only other option is to reencode the video with black borders around the edges so that the black borders are hidden by the TV's overscan, not the movie.

Keep in mind that everything you have ever watched before on TV has had the edges cropped. Probably by even more than your new LCD.

l checked online ps3 doesnt seem to support vga because of hdcp
and l dont know what u mean by reencode the video, l usually buy or rent movies from blockbuster, l dont dl and burn them to the discs

My Sony PS3 somewhat "underscans" any DVD when I set the upscale option to "Double Scale" which works very nicely since my HDTV does overscan quite a bit (CRT Rear Projection). In fact if I play a DVD that is truly 16x9 WS (in that the entire frame is image) I end up having a very thin black border that I can see all the way around the image.

Go to Settings ---> Video Settings ---> BD/DVD Upscaler ---> Pick "Double Scale"

Please note I am using the HDMI output and have it set to 1080i (my HDTV doesn't do 1080p).

Hopefully you get the same results as me.

how about a dvi to hdmi cable? connect from my ps3's hdmi to the tv's dvi

That wouldn't change anything.

Did you try my suggestion about the 'Double Scale' setting?

Also if you tried the dvi-hdmi converter you would lose audio. You would have to use a fiber optic or analog audio output to a receiver for audio.

Hell I use HDMI and still use the good 'ol trusty red/white stereo RCA audio plugs.

Not a fan of surround sound LOL

I would use a digital audio connection but that seems reserved for surround sound amps of which I do not have.

@fulcii - you know you can still carry stereo over hdmi right? (it will be stereo through the tv speakers) I do that when I dont' want to turn on the amp. I just use the tv speakers with the hdmi audio. Works great for when i don't need surround sound or its late at night etc.....
