I am trying to get an LG HDD/DVD Recorder (and player) connected to a Samsung LCD TV with no luck. The LG was purchased in Asia and worked perfectly with an HD ready TV with 720p resolution. I am now trying to connect it to a US purchased Samsung LCD (LN52A750R1F) full HD using HDMI and cannot get a picture when attempting to play back a DVD. The only message that I can get on the TV is "Mode Not Supported". I am not even able to see the DVD recorder main menu. I have tried using both the HDMI connection and the Composite/Progressive Scan Video Out connection with the same result...no picture.

I have systematically eliminated the cables as a possible source of the problem. I have also hooked up a US-purchased Samsung DVD Player to the Samsung TV and the DVD's played perfectly.

I really want to be able to use the LG DVD Recorder/Player with the Samsung LCD TV since the LG will play all of my DVD's (many region codes) and I can use the HDD recorder function.

Any suggestions on what I might try to resolve this connection problem?

Many thanks for your time. You can email me at "kramsey999@yahoo.com" if you have any suggestions or advice.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Some or many US model DTV sets reject PAL. Are you sure this DVD recorder/player outputs true NTSC or is it PAL60 (4.43 subcarrier)? Was it true multi-standard?

If PAL60, try Asia eBay. It's near worthless here.

Thanks for your advice. It is definitely something to do with the TV. I hooked up another Samsung (720p) TV that we brought back from Asia and the DVD worked perfectly. Not sure yet what the differences are.

As edDV said, your LG recorder needs to be set to output NTSC. If it is set for PAL or ANY/MULTI, that is probably your problem. Many US model HDTVs don't accept PAL video inputs. If it only outputs PAL60, I doubt you'll be able to find a US sold HDTV that will accept that.

Sorry to repeat edDV's post, but you don't seem to be paying attention and perhaps repetition will help you. Change the output setting on your LG recorder to NTSC and see if that fixes it.

Jman98 - thanks for your note. I think you have it right. Now that I can see the DVD main menu (on the Asian TV) I will see if I can change the output to NTSC. Your help is much appreciated.
