I've made my own torrent using utorrent and its embedded tracker, however, after following the instructions on the website and other websites, my embedded tracker within my torrent (eg. http://my_ip_address:listening_port/announce) keeps appearing as "offline (timed out)", I've disabled all my firewall settings, but still no luck, does anyone have a solution?

Without knowing your exact setup, it's hard to tell (though you wouldn't want to make the details public).

Best bet is to upload and use another tracker, and see if the problem persists.

Torrents and trackers are just a part of file sharing. Fan-made films, Linux distros and other authorized files are often shared through p2p. Michael moore's latest film, Slacker Uprising, is distributed that way.

Torrents: They're not just for warez anymore.

delete the torrent from uTorrent and open the torrent file from the website and restart.
