DVI-I to HDMI Cable - no picture

I have a BEN-Q projector that has a DVI-I input. The unit is designed for HD level picture and I purchased a DVI to HDMI cable so I could connect an up-converting DVD player to the unit to get the best picture quality possible. When I turned on the projector and DVD player the projector began searching for the input, paused on the input with a great picture but continued to search without locking onto the DVI input. I tried the same thing with a computer output and the DVI input on the projector, both being DVI, and the projector would not lock onto the DVI Input. Could there be a problem with the cabling or is there a problem with the projector. All other inputs on the projector work fine. Thanks

I don't understand your reply........HDCP? What are you trying to say or ask?

I run my projector from my HTPC via HDMI. When I turn on the projector, there is no picture. I have to turn the input signal off, then on again before it recognizes it and shows the image. That is HDCP. There is a negotiation or 'handshake' between the two devices. It's a PITA, but works fine after they 'agree' to work.

First get the DVI-D to DVI-D working.

You didn't ID your display card. NVidia cards need to have the projector on and switched to the DVI-D input and set to a supported resolution (try 800x600 or 640x480 first) before you boot the PC. Then if the card detects the TV port, it should show on the display settings window. Then you use normal dual monitor setup procedure.

Warning! Many projectors won't support other than a few VESA resolutions on the DVI-D port. Find the list of supported resolutions in your documentation. Many won't accept interlace on the DVI-D port. Again read your docs.

An upscaling DVD player will not send more than 720x480p from the HDMI port without an HDCP handshake. Check your docs to see if your projector supports HDCP.

If your projector really has a DVI-I in port, that allows VGA to be used. Check your docs for supported resolutions.
