i just joined on this forum but have lurked here a few times. my question is this and hopefully someone can help me out. i would like to transfer my videos from my vcr tapes and burn to disc for better preservation. i dont have a clue about how about going at this to acheive this.

i have a gateway ev 700 computer and run windows 98, im not that great of a tech head when it comes to computers. i have a panasonic PV L 345D camcorder with the smaller cassettes, i would like to somehow manage what i have on the tapes be transfered to my computer so that i can burn them off to disc,. how is this possible and what type of equipment do i need? i have no clue on where to begin.

  2. i'd recommend a capture card but i'm not sure anything produced today will work in your computer. ev-700 may be what's on the monitor but it's probably not the computer model number.

Or feed the Panasonic directly to a standalone DVD recorder for an instant DVDR. Use the highest bit rate.

thanks for the replies. i would like somehow to have the video files on the computer, that way i would be able to edit some things if possible., then burn to disc. the model number on the back of my tower says that the computer is a gateway micro atx cel essential 433 c. if that means anything. thank you for the replies

Your computer is very old running Windows 98. Few new products will work with Windows 98. You would need a capture card and drivers from 5-10 years back. 127MB of memory will also be a problem.
