Umm...what do you mean it has no region code? If you bought the unit in the US, I would assume it was factory-set for Region 1. Or maybe it's asking you which region you want to set it for. In that case, select region 1 (North America). Then again, if it will play any and all regions -- whoopie! -- thank your lucky stars. What would you need a hack or firmware for?

Maybe you're referring to discs created in your 420H? If so, all DVDRs create discs... home-made discs... for all-region play. They'll show as Region 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 in a computer app like DVD Decrypter. In other words, any disc YOU create will be playable anywhere on equipment that can play and display NTSC discs. Friends of relatives in PAL countries won't be able to play your home-made discs unless they have dual-format (PAL/NTSC) equipment.

filmboss80, YES.. you are right. that is factory-set for Region 1. Foreign movie wont be play on it. It says, "Error reg". I have a lot of foreign movies.

(sorry, im not good at explain. )
Between, i have other dvd player, Philip DVP-3040. I find unlock code for that and It works with foreign movies. I just changed region "1" to "0".

Most DVD recorders are hard/impossible to make region free. It's better to just use another player like you are.

You'll need to get better at this if you want help in the future as people who don't explain there problems very well usually don't get the help they need. People will try to help you, but they may not understand your real problem because you said something that made them think it was another problem.

All DVD players/recorders cannot be made region free. Some can, some can't. If your DVD recorder can't be made region free, I'm sorry, but that is quite common. And it's getting harder every day in the USA to make players region free as Hollywood apparently has convinced companies like Philips that it would be in their best interests to stop making it so easy for their USA sold players to be put in region free mode.

Okay. Sometimes I buy DVDs from overseas whenever they have no US region 1 version. To view a foreign disc on a region 1 player, I rip the DVD to my computer's hard drive using DVDFabHDDecrypter. After that, I burn a DVD-R copy with ImgBurn. The backup copy is region free, and I am able to watch it on any DVD player.

Perhaps you should try that to see if it works for you.

  8. Most DVDs from outside the U.S./Canada are PAL, copying them on a PC will only work if the player/recorder is PAL capable.

Samijubal -- I get NTSC DVDs from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Philippines all the time. (Never bootlegs; so don't make assumptions. I get 'em from www.yesasia.com.)

  10. I didn't assume anything, I simply stated a fact. Obviously you took it the wrong way.
