    I've had to uninstall AVG.

Piece of shit kept breaking Goldwave, even after I told it to ignore the so-called "virus". For the record, it was a false alarm, Goldwave is fine, and I've had it installed for about 4 years now.

    Goodbye and good riddance AVG.

I need Goldwave far more than I need AVG.

Must be past my bedtime, but the first time I read your post, I thought you dumped AVG 4 years ago and were now just posting about it.

    Good night

I got tired of all the AVG 'false positives' and switched to Avast. Though I have heard the newer AVG 8 is a bit better with that problem.

I'm going to use Avira on this system, see how that goes for a while.

It pops up every time it updates offering you the choice to upgrade to the full program. The price is reasonable for what is a good a/v but if you don't like the pop up you could always disable it.

Yeah, thanks. I was wondering how to do it under XP... someone once mentioned you could do it by mucking with the security settings, but wouldn't say how.

The popup doesn't really bother me, as it only shows up when I'm updating, and I manually update it (though still frequently)... but it does bother my relatives. I don't trust their ability to remember to manually update, so...

Why don't you get the one and only real antivirus (NOD32)?
At least give it a free trial, see for yourself the difference, somehow Im positive it will find at least few things AVG missed on your system
(if you need any tips how to set up NOD *perfectly* just PM me)
