I've tried all sorts of different image formats with and without use_DevIL but I can't get rid of these weird artifiacts around the edes of my title text which is simple white on black text.
Ive attached a screenshot so you can see what I mean.
Does anybody know whats going on and how I can get rid of it?

ImageSource() -- what type of image? JPEG? BMP? PNG? The odd width (429 pixels) might be a problem.
i tried with jpg, bmp, ppm and png. all came out the same.
as for the width - this is a crop for this forum. it is actually 640x480
I tried making a 640x480 uncompressed RGB BMP image with similar big white text on a black background and it had no artifacts after import with ImageSource(). Can you post one of your original images here? I'll see if I can duplicate the problem.Originally Posted by flywitness
I also tried JPG and PNG. No problems.
i am using avidemux in ubuntu linux which is receiving the image via avsproxy.exe under wine
clip=ImageSource("test.png", start = 0, end = 15, use_DevIL=true)
ConvertToYV12(clip)
it wont take my upload here. ive put the full size version at
http://flywitness.com/test.png
I saw no problems with your test image under Windows. I duplicated your AVS script and opened it with VirtualDub. I also used AvsProxy and AviDemux -- no artifacts.
That leaves wine and software version issues. I have AviDemux 2.4.3 r4276, AviSynth 2.58 Jul 29 2008.
exactly the same

this is rather worrying. if it is doing this to my titles, than what is it doing to my video?
exactly the same perhaps? maybe i just havent noticed it?
I don't see any rhyme or reason behind the distortions. Try including some real image data along with the text. See if both parts of the image result in the same problem.
test2.png
smudgetastic
Not good. Do you get the same with AviSource()?
well
i tried it again today and it works fine!!!
the only thing i can put it down to is the rather large upgrade my xubuntu system decided to pull down.
i guess its to balance out the fact that it also broke my ability to ssh with nautilus - but I dare say you guys aren't very interested in that.
Thanks for your help guys. Excellent forums by the way.
I spoke too soon. After rendering beautifully a couple of times, the problem has returned.
I have now discovered that I can resolve the issue by restarting Avidemux.
It seems that after connecting to avsproxy a few times, the image is suddenly degraded. I just tested it now, and on the third connection to the same avisynth script, the smudging appeared. I closed the image, closed Avidemux, re-ran wine avsproxy test.avs, re-opened avidemux, connected and hey presto - smudges gone!
Very strange! At least you found a workaround.Originally Posted by flywitness
