Looks like this from Kingston: http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=17663&mfr=HP%2FC...submit1=Search 512MB of RAM lists for about $30 -$40US.

Crucial has 512MB DDR PC2700 RAM for about $26US. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configurator_new/modelsinfo.asp?SysID=17663&mfr=HP%2FC...submit1=Search Or you could use a 1GB module for about $38US, which might be a better deal. That would give you 1.5GB, though 1GB is sufficient for the XP 32bit OS.

    Your model appears to be a Compaq Presario S6500NX that uses 184 pin DDR PC2700 RAM, Specs: DDR PC2700 • CL=2.5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR333 • 2.5V • 64Meg x 64 •

Or you can probably find either brand or similar at NewEgg or other major retailers.

BTW, you can also run CPU-Z and it will tell you what RAM you presently have and what speed and type it is: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

I also recommend CPU-Z, its 100% free, no adware, malware, annoyware

Its frewuently updated to take into account new motherboards and processors so stays up to date with technology, unlike some software

I use it to check computers or get people to run it on theirs before asking me about motherboard and memory upgrades so I don't have to take them apart when I get asked

It will scan and give your CPU, motherboard, BIOS and exactly what memory you have got and how fast it is running

It has a very clear interface and tell you exactly what you need to know without having masses of information that just confuse and complicate things

    I like this one too:
SIW - System Information for Windows
    http://www.gtopala.com/

I don't think it is as indepth on RAM but it is loaded with cool features.

I keep SIW and CPU-Z on a flash drive for diagnosing problem computers, or just to get system information. SIW gives you a lot of information, even serial numbers of some installed software and stored passwords, and a fair amount of info about networking setups.

  7. If you want a good price on RAM, look here:
    http://bensbargains.net/category/33

2 gigs of PC3200 for $25. The 3200 is compatible with a PC using 2700.
